This book was first published in 1987 by The East Asian Institute of Thamasart University, then used as a textbook for the courses on Sociology of Occupation and Korean Society and Culture at Ramkhamhaeng University. It has been reprinted by Ramkhamhaeng University Press thereafter.

The major objective of this book is to explore on why Korea is successful in her economic development amid the extraordinary hardship of her population and the ruined infrastructures caused by the war and by the Japanese colonization. The author set up this project to research this topic from 1985 until 1987. It is the author's first book on Korea Studies.

The book consists of 7 chapters: Chapter One delineates the theoretical framework and research methodology. Chapter Two portrays a historical background of the peninsula. Chapter Three discusses the macro economic development of the Republic by emphasizing the hegemonic project, together with the adoption of the Modernization Theory, that lead to such a success. Chapter Four focuses on the Saemuel Undong-- rural development in detail while Chapter Five highlights Korean education which is closely related to the economic development. Chapter Six portrays the Export Promotion Policy and the related industrial policy. The final Chapter summarizes the major factors contributing to Korean economic development as it provides a case study for Thai people to learn from this lesson.

This book is widely used as a textbook both at the undergraduate and graduate levels in most unversities in Thailand.
