This textbook discusses the Korean management in
detail, in order to explain how Koreans have employed
the most effective means of management to pursue their
economic development goal. Several sources and reliable
data, including those from the book, Management Behind
Industrialization by Professors from Korea
University, have been drawn to support the author's
argument.
The content of this book is divided into 7
chapters. Chapter One is an Introduction presenting the
arguments from various leading social scientists who
present their explanation on why Korean economic
development is markedly successful within a short period
of time. The author then draws up his framework to
investigate the management that might be a key factor
leading to Korean economic development success. Chapter
Two begins with a theoretical framework that looks at
politics and administration as interrelated factors to
be used in explaining the Korean phenomenon. Moreover,
public and private management in Korea have been
formulated by using the western concepts and indigenous
systems, and effectively adapted themselves to the
changing environment through time. So, the system
becomes unique and works well in the Korean
socio-cultural structure.
Chapter Three investigates the historical context for
how and why Koreans have adopted Chinese, Japanese and
the Western systems of management into their culture.
Koreans have wisely selected those elements that are
suitable to their environment.
Chapter Four and Five discuss on the Public
Administration and Chapter Six explains Private
Administration in full detail. The author points out the
process of crystalization of Korean management. However,
he also mentions problems within the system and how they
can overcome such challenges.
The final Chapter indicates the major character of
the Korean management system, and also presents a total
picture of the Korean case as a lesson to Thailand. |
